ECCC 2012
Dec 29th, 2011 at 10:16pm

Let's have a show of hands; how many folks plan to attend the upcoming Emerald City Comic Con in March 2012?

Emerald City Comic Con 2012

I'll be sharing a table with Archetype Publisher Wade Busby, and I understand that MU Press Publishers Edd Vick and Chuck Melville will be there too.

My son and I plan to wear our Incredibles costumes, assuming that my son hasn't already outgrown his.

3/4 of the original Seattle Four* will be selling a sketchbook at the convention, featuring Dark Oz characters contributed by each of us.  My own critters will include the Iron Lady (a reverse gender of the classic Tin WoodMan).

...

More about the project at Dark Oz Reimagined.

*The original Seattle Four (Edd Vick, Wade Busby, Hal Hargit, and myself (Jeff Wood)) convened to publish the Comics F/X, a cartoonist trade and review journal active in the mid-1980s through the early 1990s.  Hal has been MIA for years now, but long-time MU Press companion Chuck Melville will be his ECCC 2012 replacement.

I imagine Jeff is at ECCC now having a grand time taking pictures of the cosplayers.  Wink
I almost considered driving up to Washington (800+ miles), but the body is weak... Embarrassed

I brought my Tiger with me, so I've had good company this trip.  He spent most of his day playing Plants vs Zombies on my laptop, but he happily engaged with anyone who approached our table.

First day very busy on the con floor, although sales are slow.  Hottest item so far is my box of My Little Pony minifigs, which has been attracting a lot of attention.

I've met some old friends, too; many are asking for Mike Sagara (who they remember from ECCC 2010).
Cool

Here's Tiger with his domino mask facepaint.

There were hundreds of costumes at the convention, I only managed to document a few of them.

Left to right (my best guest): Poison Ivy, Unknown, Link, Harley Quinn, Catwoman

Apparently these are the official mascots of the Emerald City Comic Con, professional actors hired to play the superhero role.  They were quite popular with many attendees.

One of the most popular franchises represented in the hall costumes was Adventure Time, with dozens of fans representing Finn, Jake, Fiona, or Cake.

Frankly I don't know why the creators of Adventure Time haven't utilized Fionna and Cake more often; so far, they've only appeared once (in a what-if moment)... but the fan response indicates wild popularity for the duo.

For further reference, see Fionna and Cake at DeviantART

Rainbow Dash, and, umm, unknown reptillian creature in a dress military uniform.

EDIT: DeviantARTist LittleOkamiChan tells me that this character is Xorn, from the X-men
