Contest Time! Ode to Star Trek QUICKY Contest
Jun 2nd, 2009 at 1:45pm

What the heck, let's have a Star Trek contest!  The usual rules apply for a design contest featuring SnowBuni and the Sylvalagi.
  Smiley

Details:

1)  Artwork must feature AT LEAST TWO Sylvalagi characters.  Some of the choices include:

SnowBuni, Secret Agent Space Bunny
HoniBuni, Badgirl Bunny
SnuggleBuni, Financial BunnyGirl (RIP)
Whister, Indispensable Valet & Stylist
Boris Bear, Heavyweight Office Manager
Geralderson, Combat Horseman
Random, Wild & Crazy Undead Guy
Doctor Napalm, Bane of BunnyGirls
Dethret Officers, Dangerous Critteroids
TealFox, Mysterious Assassin and Happy Housewife
ZugBert, Lonely Mechanic
ShaddoPhase, Ninja CatGirl
KrystalPoni, Mecha HorseGirl
Malforms, Twisted Sub-animaloids
Robot SnowBuni, Curvaceous Mecha Assassin
Guppy, Friendly Flying Dolphin
Big Bunny Mobile Armor
Rosa Leporvore, Vicious Carnivorous Flora

Note that SnowBuni is NOT required for contest entries… contributors may use any combination of these characters (or any others which may have appeared in any previous SnowBuni print or online publication).

Remember, though, that all entries are pinups… and should include a goodgirl splash panel somewhere in the composition.

2) The topic is Star Trek, including costumes and events from any of the series, movies, books, comics, cartoons, etc.  Be creative!  Bonus points for clever originality, character design appeal, use of "Star Trek" theme, and artistic layout.  Entries may be humorous or serious.

3)  Please note!  This is a QUICKY contest, so we DO NOT need the usual multipanel pinup format.

However, each entry MUST have some TEXT, either as DIALOGUE, or a CAPTION, or both.

4)  Ideally, artwork should be proportional to 450 by 600, although I prefer to receive a *.jpg or *.gif which is a bit larger, say, 675 by 900.  This allows for a bit of shrink reduction and clarification, before posting.

5) PG or thereabouts, please.

6)  Deadline!  All contributions must be received on or before the end of the day (midnight) on Sunday June 28th, 2009.

7)  Since this is a quicky contest, winners will be determined by single judge (to be determined, but will be selected from our cadre of previous judges).

Our judge will determine 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners.

8)  First place prize is your selection of merchandise from Amazon.com ($40), 2nd place is $30 from Amazon.com, and 3rd place is $20 from Amazon.com.  If we have more than three entries, we may also implement additional small prizes.

9)  Artist who collaborate on a winning entry will win only ONE prize, which be split according to their mutual agreement.

10)  Only one entry per artist.  My own artwork is not eligible for the contest.

Ready?  Let's see how SnowBuni and the Sylvalagi handle the universe of Star Trek!
Cool

OK. I guess that's broad enough.

I decided that the Red Shirt contest idea was too restrictive, and, as you and Kyle Miller pointed out, there are a lot of oddball costumes in the Star Trek catalog (especially from the older shows).  Some of these I had never even seen before.
  Huh

Actually, our universe may be contained within a vastly larger continuity... scientists have been studying the nonlinear acceleration of some galactic clusters at the very borders of our deep-space perception.  One theory suggests that these are being gravitationally attracted to vast, unseen structures outside of the visible universe.

The mind boggles.

According to "The Making of Star Trek" the costume designer for the original series had a habit of designing costumes that you expected the actresses to fall out of.

Some time ago I saw the original Star Trek "bloopers" reel (displayed with a projector from 8mm film to a screen) at a science-fiction convention; and yes, at least one actress did fall out of her top (her breast popped out when she twisted, but her costume did not).  She then said a couple of words which made the scene unsuitable for television broadcast in the 1960s.
Wink

My wife tells me that this isn't uncommon, when women are active while wearing a daring outfit... one solution is rubber cement, which helps the costume cling to the breasts, and is easy to remove later.

Here's a few samples from previous contests, all demonstrating our criteria of a single panel with some sort of caption or dialogue.

I recall that blooper reel. I don't recall seeing anything that would have caused a crisis at a Superbowl halftime show, but I was young at the time. BTW, it was against standards at the time to show the underside of a woman's breast. I'd say more, but I don't want to give away what I'm working on. Wink

Rumor has it that Carrie Fisher had multiple "wardrobe malfunctions" while wearing her skimpy outfit in "Return of the Jedi," which required frequent adjusments by the wardrobe mistress.

Yay, underboob!  I'd post a link to a Google Image search, but it would definitely be NSFW.

I remember reading that, too... apparently her "slave attire" featuring the metal bikini was not at all flexible.

Considering the hazards of the design, it is amazing how many times Slave Leia appears in costume at science-fiction and comic book conventions.
