This photo of Lady Death didn't turn out very well; this was a recurring problem I had with cosplayers wearing white face paint.  It would reflect my flash and obscure facial details.

I am informed that the other character is The Riddler.

There were many floor costumes of excellent quality this year.  I would guess that most were Hollywood-costume caliber, or better.

Here's Alice (from WonderLand) and the Pulse-Pounding Punisher.  Odd team-ups like this one were the norm, during the convention.

...

I am informed that the lady is probably Snow White, but this is unconfirmed.

Here's another odd team... Catwoman (?), and Imperial Stormtrooper, and the Scarlet Witch... representing the ultimate crossover comic.

I am told that the character on the left is the Black Widow.

I only took one movie this time, just a quick 360' panoramic shot from the top of my chair in Artist's Alley.  I thought it might be extra amusing if I managed to fall off while filming (the chair was plastic and flexed a lot, making my footing somewhat unstable), but fortunately I did the whole slow-motion spin without a faceplant.

...thought I'd take a moment to give a big shout-out to Brent and Patrick at Scruffy Puppies, Matt at SuperSpy, Sean Johnson of Dragonaur, and Wade Busby of Archetype Studios.  All of these guys gave me a big assist when I needed to leave the table for any reason, allowing me to get some photos of the floor costumes (and some lunch, too).  Patrick (he of the Rubiks Cube) was especially good with sales; every time I left, he was able to collect cash for me.

Thanks guys; I appreciate your assistance.  Having great neighbors on both sides of my table really made the convention experience a great one.

Hey, thanks for sharing the pics his year. I see costuming has really taken off, very professional-looking costumes.

My other hobby is photography, and the Emerald City convention is a good place for cartooning, collecting, and photos.  The costumes don't disappoint, either; many are amazingly professional and detailed.

One of the stormtroopers was showing me the electronics and ventilation systems inside his helmet.  I don't think even the official movie props were this sophisticated!

Of course, now I want to wear a costume for one of the upcoming events, too.  It's kind of like a special mid-year Halloween party.
Cool

There was no lack of cute girls.  Twenty years ago this would have been unlikely, but the comic book social scene has really changed.  I think that the rise of "relationship manga" has attracted the young ladies, so the community is much more balanced than it used to be.

I don't know the name of the franchise in which these kabuki cat-warriors appear, but this group had the most dynamic and extreme poses of any cosplayer group at the convention.

I am informed that these guys are channeling a ninja-cat clan from Naruto.

Here is a copy of the convention sketch that I made for Sean in return, featuring the Dirty Pair in my own house style (scan received via email today).
