Cartoonists NorthWest Toonies 2006
Mar 2nd, 2006 at 7:19pm

...last weekend my wife and I took time to attend the annual Toonie award banquet, honoring artists in the largest cartooning club in the state of Washington, Cartoonists NorthWest.  This was a special event as it was also the 25th anniversary of the club's founding... and it was also the first time that my wife and I had an evening together without our 4-month old son.

Cartoonists and animators at our table included Tracy Reynolds aka Calicougar (left), and Steve Gallacci (right) of Albedo Anthropomorphics infamy.  Here we're working with small clay samples provided by the hosts, to provide creative content to the evening.

Cartoonist Gallacci is wearing a silver star to indicate that he was one of the original members of the club from 25 years ago.

...cartoonist Kev Brockschmidt (right) and his wife, Tami (center).  I've known this couple since before they were married, and now they have four kids (not present).

Sadly I do not know the gentleman on the right.

EDIT:  I got a letter from CNW co-founder Maureen Gibbs, with the following update:

In the photo with Kev and Tami was Steve Greenberg.  He used to be editorial cartoonist from the [daily Seattle newspaper] P.I. with Dave Horsey, and now he's editorial cartoonist in Ventura CA.  He traveled up from CA for the Toonies.  Farther away than even you!!

...I'm thinking that this year's Mardi Gras parade floats might be the first time they actually float.

OK, in terms of humorous content, that gets about a -1 (on a scale of 1 to 10).

...Kelly and I had met Seattle cartoonist Stevie Van Bronkhorst (seated, center) at the Emerald City Comic Con 2005, and were surprised to see her again at this banquet.  We hadn't even known that she was a CNW member.  In this photograph she speaks with CNW president and Artistic Entrepreneur Scott Alan (standing).
