Hey,

I forgot to mention, Starblazers as it was called here in the USA aired in the late '70s and early '80s.  I think the day it aired was sometime in September 1977.

The original show in Japan aired in '74.  We receive the shows three years after they have aired in Japan.  Or that is the way it used to be, but with the internet that has all changed now.

Now speaking personally, I always had a crush on Yuki Mori aka Nova from the cruiser Argo aka Yamato.  now if we could see Snowi or Honi dressed up like the crew or in that uniform that would be cool.

I also was a big fan of the Space Battleship Andromeda from the Starblazer series.  it carried the duel wave motion gun...  Just awesome...

Hello,

I am sorry I was  chatting about the Daicon Bunny Girl and how the yamato along with everything else gets blasted in that show.

The reason why Daicon 3 is so important is because it sets up for number 4.  Without that little girl growing up there can be no Daicon Bunny Girl...

There is another show dealing with anime called Starship Girl Yamamoto.  Sadly it has nothing to do with that cool looking Space Battle Ship.  It seems to deal more with singing and kaorioke.  Or so it would seem.

...because of the similarity of titles, I would guess that Starship Girl Yamamoto is an intentional homage to Space Cruiser Yamato.

At the end of the Daicon III opener, our heroine uses a magic elixir to transform an ordinary daicon (white radish) into a gigantic, radish-shaped space cruiser.  She is beamed aboard, and finds that she is the Captain.

The ending of the Daicon IV opener is a bit more somber.  Our heroine is apparently vaporized in a nuclear explosion, and memorialized in this "farewell" scene in which she recedes from the viewer and fades away into darkness.  Autumn leaves blow across her to symbolize the end of the season.

The film goes on to document the death and rebirth of the planet, but the Daicon girl is not seen again.

It is this introspective element of loss and grief which lends depth to this short film, and separates it from more "fluffier" media.

Hello,

Well sadly to say Starship Girl Yamamoto is about three earth girls who meet up with a Spaceship owner and how they kind of kidnap him and force him to take them all around the universe while the three girls sing and dance on his ship.

I tried to watch it and I think I did but sadly I do not remember that much about it.  i know he was interested in the girls for some strange reason.  I think he had dreams of being with them.  but they were violent and kicked the tar out of him in the beginning...

My only comment about this was that poor sap.  So yes  it may have been a tribute it may not have but as far as being Starblazers, not even close...

Hi,

I did notice something about the ending of Daicon III.  the little girl seems to be wearing what looks like the uniform from the Macross series.  Or should I say Lisa Hayses' Outfit.  At least her officer's outfit.

Now if someone would just draw Bunny Ears on the girl everything would be cool.  it real funny that in the openning the robot that attacks her is from Struggle Bunny.

Greetings,

So the Bunny Girl gets wasted...  [Brief Pause for a moment...  A moment to think about this, to actually let it set in...]  NO!!!!!----

I always thought she was just looking on at the aftermath of all her destruction.  And we did not see her anymore because their were no further enemies to waste.  But I guess I was just looking towards the optomistic view.  I guess it is up to the viewer to decide the out come of the story.  Maybe Gainax did that on purpose.

I do know that when we see the planets orbiting our solar system that is the arrangement of them at that time and date when the show was created.

...there is some ambiguity in the film, and my synopsis merely details my analysis.  Some buddies and I discussed this show when I was in college, using advertising iconic imagery to interpret the film.  Our conclusions are open to debate.

...I didn't know that; that's cool.  A date stamp using the positions of the planets as a clock face.

Hello,

Their seems to be a lot of ambiguity in the film.  Plus it seems that I missed a lot scenes.  I did notice the dice and the hexagon shaped gaming table which seems to state the animators or someone on that show was an RPGer.  But then again I think everyone catchers that scene.

I will have to watch it once again and see what I can find just so we can talk about it...

I will email you with another good idea Jeff just so know one steals it from us.

...actually, I think the field is wide open to create a sequel to the first two Daicon films, given the events thus far...

Opening shot is a smashed industrial landscape where humans are hiding from HK drones and Terminator endoskeletons (from the "Terminator" movie series).  In the rubble of the city, the human fighters find a high heel containing a few foot bones.  A "survivor!"  (So to speak...)

The fragments are taken to a secret lab and placed in regeneration chamber (from the "The Fifth Element" movie), where the machines recreate... The Daicon Girl!  ...complete with fishnet tights, high heels, cuffs, and bowtie.  A Savior!  She jumps into action, ready to save (or destroy) the world (as needed)...

From there, we can add references from the movies "The Matrix" (with "bullet time" sequences), "ALIENS," "Hellboy," "the Grudge," the "Star Wars" series, recent cartoons, anime shows, and other popular cultural icons, characters, and scenes.

The New Daicon Girl kicks butt, and looks good in the process.

Hello,

That does sound like a plan.  We could always do the new Bunny Girl as one of the SnowBuni characters.  Or a totally new character designed by one of our talented artists.

That is if you want...

...I've actually considered doing my own homemade homage to the Daicon opener, using SnowBuni as the super-powered bunnygirl.  This might be something to think about, as it would allow us freedom to market the film without the copyright considerations involved with the Daicon character.

Hmmm....

I have never seen anyone think their way through the Daicon opener this much before.... (I just thought it was cool 'cos Conan is in it...)

Wasn't Misty May the character from Otaku no Video? I've seen ads for a model kit of the character from the Daicon 4 opener named "Alice;" but I can't say for sure how accurate that is.
