Houston cartoonist William Haskell writes, "I'm finally working on the long-delayed Zugbert comix, but was momentarily distracted long enough to produce the enclosed Xenabuni piece instead."

...

She's a double-D D&D buni.
Shocked Roll Eyes

Zugbert is cartoonist Haskell's character contribution to the Sylvalagi universe, an underappreciated four-armed mechanic who repairs SnowBuni's poor abused mecha warmachines.  In spite of several cameos, he's never starred in a published SnowBuni adventure.  Not yet, anyway.

I seem to recall (with great appreciation  Cheesy) that Mr. Haskell was one of few lucky(?) folks who bought a Hey, Neeters! T-shirt lo these many years ago.

I've been meaning to post my own thank-you note to William Haskell, for the gift that he sent me earlier this year.  I'm really bad about this... I receive a lot of goodies in the mail from SnowBuni fans and admirers, and I never do enough to thank these good folk for their support and encouragement.

Well, I need to do better.  Starting with cartoonist Haskell, and his small press sketchbook that he sent... titled Arrival Time in Limbo (subtitled Miscellaneous Stray Bunnygirl Art by William Earl Haskell) and featuring dozens of sketches.  Many of these feature SnowBuni, in various states of nudity (as befitting an artistic investigation).

Like all sketchbooks, many of the poses are awkward or fragmentary, but it is fascinating to review the progression of his interests and abilities.

Here's a self-portrait of my copy and I on the front porch of my house.
Shocked

...

I don't know if William would consider selling one of these to any interested third parties, as it appears to be a one-off.  Write to Mr. Haskell for more information, and ask about the Rowrbrazzle APA for anthropomorphic arts while you're at it.  William is the current OE, and they are taking applications.

I didn't exactly count, but it appears to be about 40 pages, single-sided, spiral bound.  Contains lots of nudity, so an age statement will be required.

Note that I've already got pages tagged for scanning.

...probably my favorite sketch in the volume is titled, "Behind the Scenes at Pseudo Comics!" and features an actress getting into costume as SnowBuni.  She has a wig with SnowBuni's "wild hare" bouffant and ears on her dressing room table, and is about to strap on a pair of super-size stage breasts over her more realistic proportions.  "Thank 'Bob' that my boobs aren't really this big!," she mutters.
Grin

...

Yes, content has been edited slightly.  For the uncensored version, you'll have to contact cartoonist William Haskell.

Cartoonist Haskell's sketch of SnowBuni wearing a T-shirt with the slogan "My eyes are up here!" and an arrow pointing away from her breasts and toward her face.

Recently, Houston cartoonist William Haskell sent me this tableau of SnowBuni surveying a recently re-discovered Sylvalagi facility.  William writes:

Enclosed is a piece I finished a couple of weeks ago, that I started some time last year. The story seems to be that Snowi and pals are on an expedition inside an ancient Sylvalagi installation that has stood empty and seemingly dead for centuries - but we all know better, right?

I'm thinking that this is a good place to find diabolical deadman traps, devious puzzles, deadly underground dwellers, reanimated mummies, and the usual ancient perils and curses.

I did remark to William that, in this composition she's either standing on a ledge overlooking this vast chamber, or she's suddenly 50 feet tall.

Hi ho, back after a long absence. Arrival Time In Limbo was originally meant to be a one-off (only two copies made, one of which remains on a shelf in my Shunned Library), but since then I have been accumulating some additional material, including color pages, comics and new art - not at present a very exstensive collection, so it may take a while.

Regarding the latest, yes she is on a rather high ledge; your suggestions for further explorations is intriguing and I'll look into it.

The Long-Delayed Zubgert Cartoon has become the Even-Further-Delayed Zugnert Cartoon, I'm not even sure where I put the part I actually did any work on! Tsk. Something else to see about.

Lately I've been drawing pretty much in pencil alone, after a longish fling with ball-point pens (influenced by Taral Wayne & Dean Lee Norton) - unlike Uniball and other such, a ball-point does not readily surrender its ink, thus requiring some more effort than the other types and therefore allowing more control. With pencil, OTOH, has the advantage of being more easily correctible (eraser) than ink (whiteout which is nonabsorbant).

Not much else at present - Rowrbrazzle #97 is coming up and as usual hardly anyone has sent in anything so far - vexing enough, especially as I must count myself as one of this group. The piece I was going to use was originally started in March 2007, and at the current rate may be ready by March 2009. We shall see.

I'd like to see more of Zugbert, if you can find the time.  He and SnowBuni seem to get along well.

...when I was acting OE of the UFO (United Fanzine Organization), I would send letters to members reminding them of the deadline.  If I still get few responses, I would then send a SECOND reminder.

In the long run, though, this was counter-productive.  Members would become dependent on the reminders.  When they missed a deadline, they would complain, "...But!  You didn't send a second reminder!"

I thought someone was invoking my name. I Google myself now and then to see what I've been doing..or not doing time to time, and this popped up.  Wink

But, yes gel ink does not lend itself to the kinds of detail you would otherwise get from a 99 cent Bic.

I think this is called egosurfing.  All it's told me is that there are many, many people named "Jeff Wood" (which is why I've taken to calling myself "Jeffrey H Wood," so as to give myself some elbow room).

I admire people who can ink with ballpoint pens; it means that they begin with more of the finished image in mind.  My art technique is much more vague... my sketches often evolve from my original concept into a completely different piece.  This is one of the reasons that I'm such a slow cartoonist.

And that's a good name for it, cuz that's what I do..!!  Grin

I've truncated my name to "DLNorton" since I found a couple of other "Dean L. Nortons" out there. However, there is a "DLNorton Construction" out of a AZ, so I'm back at square one.  Undecided

I'm glacier-ly slow, so don't feel bad. I'm restarting my "Desert Storms" series..and that'll take a while to get the steam back up.

The other day I was watching my DVD copy of the 2004 Pixar film, The Incredibles, and one of the writers mentioned that it is very, very difficult to develop a set of superhero names that haven't already been used somewhere.  In spite of the crowded field, they managed to create some zingers, like Mr Incredible, Frozone, GazerBeam, and others.

Cartoonist William Haskell recently sent me this interesting vehicle concept, which I thought was intriguing.

...

I wrote to William:

I like it.  Although I might suggest a trailing wheel instead of a leading wheel, since the sadlle will try to counter-rotate backwards when acceleration is applied to the large wheel.

William returned:

I'm not sure just how practical something like this would be. It would be more in the line of Vaughn Bode's "sillytech" vehicles, I imagine - just barely almost likely to work.

Carrtoonist Haskell also sent me a sketchy story proposal, titled When ZugBert Met Snowy (A Tragedy in 8 Panels).  I think I've talked him into letting me reprint it in the webcomic.

Here's a sneak peak...
