Emerald City Comic Con, February 5th & 6th, 2005
Oct 22nd, 2004 at 11:14am

My wife and I are considering the upcoming Emerald City Comic Con, February 5th and 6th in Seattle, although we are not committed yet.

Any comment?  Has anyone been to this event?  Is it worth the membership?

If it's like anything near what it was last year you will be seen and met by thousands of people!

We (UniqueAnime) made much of the proverbial phat cash at that con last year - it was a blast too.

You should most defienately consider doing it.

Hmmm. Thanks for the recommend... it sounds like a good time.  The cheapest way to sign up is the Artist's Alley.... however, I'm wondering if they would allow me to put out boxes of comics, models, books, and action figures, like I did at Conifur.

I could call myself an artist, but I'm more like a mini-dealer.  ...or a traveling garage sale, specializing in geek collectibles.

It's official now... Kelly and I added the Emerald City Comic Con to our schedule for this year.  We'll have a table in the "Artist's Alley," where we'll be selling sketches, original art, prints, posters, and extra comics from our collection.

If you plan to see us there, be sure and ask about the Double Secret Convention Special.  I'll have a small SnowBuni publication available, by request only.

...I should mention that I have spoken with the con organizers.  I've been told that I can sell comics from my table in Artist's Alley, but not action figures and other 3D collectibles (these should be limited to the Dealer's area).

So, I will be selling some of my original art, prints, and selected comic books from my collection at the Emerald City Comic Con.

Mark your calenders... it won't be long now!

Kelly and I are almost ready for our Emerald City Comic Con adventure (in Seattle, Washington, USA) this weekend (February 5th and 6th, 2005).

I've nearly completed an 11x17 SnowBuni poster (using the standee artwork).

...

I may also have a digest fanzine available reprinting the entire run of webcomics that I recently took offline.  Cost will be $3 per copy.

BUT, if you kow the secret word, you get a free fanzine or poster (your choice).  The secret word is...

GLIFFISGARGLE

...and if you've been reading Spiderman for 20 years or more, you'll recognize that word.
Grin

I'll also have available a selection of comics for sale from my own collection, plus copies of some of my old fanzines, magazines, and other collectables.

Look forward to seeing everyone at the Con.  Remember the secret word!

Hello,

Jeff, first I just wanted to say have fun at the convention.  Do not forget your camera, so that way those of us who could not make it will get to enjoy the Con.

Secondly hold on to a copy of each one of those cool mini-comics you have made dealing with Snowi and her sis Honi.  See look at this you have not even made it to the convention and already made a sale...

Also be on the look out for the Mini-book I am sending you.  Plus some extra stuff...

Email me for the details...

Kelly and I just rolled back into town, returning from Seattle and the Emerald City Comic Con.  First thing we did on our return was crash and take a nap, as we hadn't had much sleep during the weekend (lots of convention activities, and a visit with the relatives too).

We have mixed feelings about the Con.. we got to see lots of our friends, and reconnect with folks we hadn't seen since we moved from Seattle in 1991.  Sales were very poor, though, less than half of what we earned at Conifur.

I have a collection of photos to share, though, which I plan to post this week.  There were a number of professional-grade hall costumes at the show, and I took portraits of friends, dealers, web cartoonists, and resident goths.  I've always enjoyed amateur photography, and the Con provided lots of opportunities for creative snapshots.

More later.  I think I'll go pass out, now.

Apparently some 6,000 fans and professionals attended the convention during the weekend.  Featured items included lots of comic books, comic book publishers, anime items, DVDs, plastic models, action figures, T-shirts, and tons of other stuff.

...

...

If you look carefully, you can just barely see the SnowBuni standee in the center of this photo.

Kelly was my booth babe.  Having her along allowed me to wander about the convention when times were slow, chat with the other publishers and web cartoonists, and photograph the local fauna.  Thanks Kelly!

Kelly brought a book along to keep her company between customers.

Featured items on my table included extra comics from my collection, DVDs, books, art tools, lots of original art sketches, and the new SnowBuni fanzine and poster printed just for the event.

The MU Press booth, with publishers Chuck Melville (left) and Edd Vick (right).  MU Press printed the first SnowBuni independent comic back in 1991, although it has been sold out for many years.

Party until the cows come home.  Then, MU.

Since I was once a big Star Wars fan, this is now my favorite picture of all time.

I'm captured by Imperial troops (and one Jawa).  Fortunately I had my awesome force powers to convince them that these were not the droids they were looking for.
