Zolna’s Combat Armor and Lingerie Boutique page 1 of 1 by Jeffrey H Wood
The MechANImoids Special “X” edition (published in 1994 by MU Press) celebrated ten years of continuous SnowBuni publications in the small press and independent scene, and featured stories and pinup art by a number of “furry,” anime, and pinup artists.
This cover art was originally printed sans dialogue… in all likelihood, most buyers didn’t know that a script for this scene even existed. It details a shopping trip in which SnowBuni and her cybernetic valet, Whister, pick out some new work clothes (appropriate for her line of business and fashion sense).
The name of the shop references Ed Zolna, who once stocked a distribution service for fans of anthropomorphic comic books.
The idea for the odd combination of armor and lingerie originates in a short science fiction story which I read some time ago (I don’t recall the title), in which a group of engineers were tasked to produce a set of space-age armor which would be stylistically acceptable to the female warriors (who were apparently not too fond of the standard “steel gorilla” architecture for such apparel). Unable to change the basic shape due to performance and safety requirements, the design team opted to add a “transparent” option so that the occupant could display herself even when fully suited-up.

I’m reprinting some of the classic from the SnowBuni print comics and early digital posts. I’ve been fielding some questions regarding the history of SnowBuni, and I thought these would provide a bit of entertainment and enlightenment into the Sylvalagi universe.

Like many enthusiasts with fond memories of the original Bugs Bunny and crew from Warner Brothers Studios, I was horrified to hear of the planned “reinterpretation” of the classic characters as the Loonatics back in 2004.
As described, the Loonatics concept seemed unworkable… for one thing, the characters in the original theater shorts had been antagonists, representing absurd caricatures of real situations (such as Elmer’s ill-fated hunting trip in Rabbit Seasoning in which Daffy and Bugs try to convince the hunter to shoot the other). In contrast, the characters in the Loonatics are more-or-less interchangeable teammates, without any interesting conflicts or acknowledgment of their differences.
This is the first strip (work-in-progress) of a Loonatics parody (which I actually wrote BEFORE the Loonatics cartoon series was released), in which I highlighted the faults that I anticipated for the series (using my Sylvalagi characters SnowBuni and HoniBuni as members of the Loonatics “team”).
Even though it appears that the animated Loonatics series has been cancelled, I’m thinking to publish my little parody anyway. Call it a post-cancellation critique.
I think it’s worth posting. Or not. You let me know!
The artwork is still a bit sketchy… I’ve inked two panels of this page multiple times, trying to find the perfect procedure. Still working on it.
Also, note that I’ve modified SnowBuni and Taz, with a style containing elements from both the Loonatics show as well as my own Pseudo Comics.
Also… gaps in the previous story arc (Lost in the Haunted House) will be filled by chapters as they become available from their contributing artists.
