Comments by Cartoonist Jeffrey H Wood:

  • ...this SnowBuni sketch was one of a series of cover concepts made for the Seattle Star, a tabloid publication by Michael Dowers in Seattle, Washington (USA). I repenciled the piece several times, but the editors did not feel that the artwork was quite right for their needs. No harm, no foul, no problem.
  • This scenario illustrates a news item that was a media concern in Seattle during one summer, in which joggers and swimmers at Seattle's GreenLake Park reported seeing crocodile-like "monsters" in the water, and even witnessed the creatures attacking and devouring ducks.
  • Eventually the "monsters" were captured, and found to be two caimans (a relative of the crocodile), probably two pets that someone had abandoned in the lake. Neither of the animals were more than a foot long, which makes the media hysteria even more humorous in retrospect.
  • Discussion.
