Art Introduction by Guest Artist Doug Gracey:

  • I had just finished the illo I was working on for Radio Comix’ 2004 Hit The Beach issue & only scribbled a quick sketch for the contest. The original had SnowBuni with the sparkler wearing denim shorts & a red top. [However, cartoonist Teri Wood] beat me to it with her pinup art. (laughs)
  • Not wanting a similar image [as Teri's pinup] I went back to the drawing board. I really liked the pose so to make the illo different in my eyes... I did a little research into the subject of kimonos to give my completed entry an Asian flavor.
  • I have to say that I only got the image about 90% authentic. I found out after I posted the illo that the Asian community have sparklers made from a twisted string of paper instead of wire & held downward.
